00:00:08.669 --> 00:00:16.637
Hello and welcome to this short episode of the Fandom Portals podcast, the podcast where we explore fandoms that help you learn and grow.
00:00:16.637 --> 00:00:27.856
I'm your host, aaron, and today I am solo hosting this episode because we are bringing to you the winners of the 2024 Fandom Favorites Awards.
00:00:27.856 --> 00:00:29.388
So the Oscars are just around the corner.
00:00:29.388 --> 00:00:33.405
Our version of that is the Fandom Favorites, where we have three categories so far.
00:00:33.405 --> 00:00:35.670
We're looking to grow that in 2025.
00:00:35.670 --> 00:00:40.941
So if you have any ideas for categories, please send them through to our email or social medias Links in the show notes below.
00:00:40.941 --> 00:00:51.533
But our three categories so far that we have are Best Movie of 2024, best Hero of 2024, and Best Villain of 2024.
00:00:51.533 --> 00:01:00.185
So it's very interesting to me to put these polls out to our community and I also want to thank all of our community members for actually coming in and voting on these polls.
00:01:00.185 --> 00:01:02.131
They can't happen without you, so thank you very much.
00:01:02.131 --> 00:01:16.132
We had over 112 voters across our polls and it's just amazing to see that community interaction on the things that we're creating, and it's interesting to me to see what becomes popular and why it becomes favorites for people.
00:01:16.132 --> 00:01:20.085
So that's one of the things that really keeps me interested in this fandom portals.
00:01:20.085 --> 00:01:23.391
Space is just to see why people like the things that they like.
00:01:23.391 --> 00:01:33.795
So it's very interesting to see what people looked at in terms of the favorite heroes, villains and the favorite movies of 2024.
00:01:34.019 --> 00:01:41.293
All right, so let's dive in first with the category of best villain of 2024.
00:01:41.293 --> 00:01:51.986
The best villain of 2024 is a category where we celebrate the antagonists of a movie that was released in 2024.
00:01:51.986 --> 00:01:56.605
So sometimes the villains and the antagonists can become the favorite character of the entire movie.
00:01:56.605 --> 00:02:00.382
They definitely drive the plot and they are the antithesis of the hero.
00:02:00.382 --> 00:02:07.795
So our nominees for this award was Vince McMahon, the real life CEO of the WWE.
00:02:07.795 --> 00:02:11.991
We had Cooper from the movie Trapped by M Night Shyamalan.
00:02:11.991 --> 00:02:18.830
We had Proximus Caesar from Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and we also had Macrinus from Gladiator 2.
00:02:18.830 --> 00:02:28.033
Now, what I didn't mention before was these nominations were picked by Brash and I and we sent these out to our community to vote on see which ones they thought was the best of 2024.
00:02:28.033 --> 00:02:37.099
So the winner of this one, by a landslide accruing 50% of the poll vote, was none other than Proximus Caesar.
00:02:39.186 --> 00:02:40.691
What a wonderful day.
00:02:40.691 --> 00:02:48.151
Are we thankful for the words of Caesar?
00:02:48.151 --> 00:02:49.896
We are thankful.
00:02:49.896 --> 00:02:52.889
Do we bend our heads?
00:02:52.889 --> 00:02:53.723
We bend.
00:02:53.723 --> 00:02:58.284
Say his words, praise to God.
00:02:58.284 --> 00:03:03.038
Say his words, praise to God.
00:03:03.038 --> 00:03:06.169
What a wonderful day.
00:03:07.199 --> 00:03:12.026
Now, as we said, Proxima Caesar comes from the 2024 movie Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
00:03:12.026 --> 00:03:15.931
He is played by the extremely talented Kevin Durand.
00:03:15.931 --> 00:03:32.394
Now you might recognise Kevin Durand's voice from other movies, like the Wolverine Origins movie, where he played the blob, and he is also in real steel as well, but in this movie he really embodies that charismatic, villainous entity of Proximus Caesar.
00:03:32.394 --> 00:03:46.240
It is said that he took his inspiration from real life life coaches like Tony Robbins, the tech billionaire, elon Musk and even Arnold Schwarzenegger billionaire Elon Musk and even Arnold Schwarzenegger.
00:03:46.240 --> 00:03:54.419
He also said that he played this character of Proximus Caesar as if he himself thought that he wasn't a villain and that he was just a product of the environment that he was in.
00:03:54.419 --> 00:04:00.860
So he said that the state of the world at the beginning of you know humans time on the earth.
00:04:00.860 --> 00:04:04.230
They're just like usually pretty greedy and selfish as a race.
00:04:04.230 --> 00:04:09.387
So he kind of just leaned into that as he was playing Proximus Caesar, and it seems to have come off really, really well.
00:04:09.387 --> 00:04:18.189
So we want to thank our Fandom Portals community for giving the first ever Fandom Favorites Best Villain Award to Kevin Durand and Proximus Caesar.
00:04:18.189 --> 00:04:20.394
All right.
00:04:20.439 --> 00:04:26.160
So the next category we're going to be looking at is the Best Hero category for 2024.
00:04:26.160 --> 00:04:33.314
The Best Hero category for 2024 gives us some characters that we can aspire to.
00:04:33.314 --> 00:04:41.819
Heroes are the shining knights of the story, and they often present characteristics or values that we really are enamored by.
00:04:41.819 --> 00:04:48.793
In our awards for 2024 for this year, the nominees were extensive.
00:04:48.793 --> 00:05:05.672
So firstly, we had Deadpool from the Deadpool and Wolverine movie, we had Kate from Twisters, we had Gambit from the Deadpool and Wolverine movie as well, and we also had Colt Seavers from the Fall Guy movie, and this year's winner, with 42% of the vote, was Colt Seavers.
00:05:09.161 --> 00:05:10.064
Oh, that's me.
00:05:10.064 --> 00:05:10.666
Was Colt Seavers?
00:05:10.666 --> 00:05:22.829
Oh, that's me, colt Seavers Getting blown up and hiding my face in a muddy puddle, which isn't ideal when you're trying to look cool in front of Jodie, who you just so happen to have a major crush on.
00:05:22.829 --> 00:05:24.586
She's a camera operator.
00:05:24.586 --> 00:05:29.601
She's definitely going to achieve her goal of being a big time Hollywood movie director.
00:05:29.601 --> 00:05:38.612
I don't want to over romanticize it or anything, but I think what Jodie and I got is the kind of thing you can only really find in the movies.
00:05:39.336 --> 00:05:48.675
Colt Seavers was played by Ryan Gosling, and it is said that Ryan Gosling had an integral part in some of the creative aspects of this movie.
00:05:48.675 --> 00:06:03.252
Now, not only did he really admire David Leitch, the director, and the various stunt doubles on the production, but he also conquered his own fears on this production, and that was his fear of heights.
00:06:03.252 --> 00:06:07.124
So at the beginning of the movie, you saw the 150-foot fall that he had to do, his fear of heights.
00:06:07.124 --> 00:06:10.567
So at the beginning of the movie, you saw the 150 foot fall that he had to do.
00:06:10.567 --> 00:06:12.689
He conquered that fear of heights, enabled to portray the hero of Cult Severs.
00:06:12.689 --> 00:06:39.091
Now we've chatted on the podcast before, brasher and I, and we've said how talented Ryan Gosling is, so it's no surprise that our Fandom Portals community has also recognized his talent as he plays the hero Cult Severs, and the first ever recipient of our best hero award for the fandom favorites of 2024.
00:06:39.091 --> 00:06:46.829
All right, last but not least, our final category is the fandom favorite best movie award.
00:06:47.129 --> 00:06:53.509
Now, movies are a constant staple in the Fandom Portals podcast as a point of reference to help us learn and grow.
00:06:53.509 --> 00:07:08.271
They are the living place of many of our favourite fandoms, and this year, in 2024, there are so many movies for us to sink our teeth into, but the nominees that we came up with were Gladiator 2.
00:07:08.271 --> 00:07:13.451
We had Deadpool and Wolverine, the Wild Robot and the Fall Guy.
00:07:13.451 --> 00:07:18.327
Four extremely awesome movies that came out entertained audiences worldwide.
00:07:18.327 --> 00:07:39.048
Every single one of those movies made a profit in terms of their budget and worldwide box office numbers, but the winner, with 54% of the vote from all of our voters in the fandom portals community, was sean levy's deadpool and wolverine if they can fix your world.
00:07:39.069 --> 00:07:40.812
What's the first thing you're gonna do when you get out of here?
00:07:40.812 --> 00:07:44.031
Some rubbing alcohol shots, maybe a wiper fluid chaser?
00:07:44.031 --> 00:07:44.774
What did you say?
00:07:44.774 --> 00:07:46.862
So when you get back, what's the first thing you're gonna do?
00:07:46.862 --> 00:07:47.848
Do I'm going to run before that?
00:07:47.848 --> 00:07:56.014
If they can fix your world, what do you mean?
00:07:56.014 --> 00:08:01.264
If I mean you lied to me, you don't have a fucking clue if they can help me fix things, do you?
00:08:01.264 --> 00:08:02.507
No, I mean Fuck.
00:08:02.507 --> 00:08:06.225
I didn't lie.
00:08:06.225 --> 00:08:13.226
No, I made an educated wish Because I need you this.
00:08:13.226 --> 00:08:18.307
This is why Right here, because if we don't do something, they die.
00:08:18.307 --> 00:08:22.305
I don't know anything about saving worlds, and why would I even care?
00:08:22.305 --> 00:08:24.947
Because my entire world is right here.
00:08:24.947 --> 00:08:30.172
In this picture it's only nine people and I have no idea how to save it alone.
00:08:30.172 --> 00:08:35.191
I know how to fuck people up for money, but you, you know how to save them.
00:08:35.191 --> 00:08:37.767
At least the other Wolverine did.
00:08:37.767 --> 00:08:41.307
I guess I'm stuck with the worst one.
00:08:41.307 --> 00:08:47.153
Did you say you made an educated, fucking wish?
00:08:47.153 --> 00:08:49.408
They call me the Merc with the mouth.
00:08:50.000 --> 00:08:52.048
This movie was a sensation.
00:08:52.048 --> 00:08:58.830
Ever since people learned that Hugh Jackman was coming back as Wolverine, the hype meter just went through the roof.
00:08:58.830 --> 00:09:10.509
Now, everybody was a little bit reluctant because, obviously, the send-off that Hugh Jackman as Wolverine got in Logan in 2017 was quite an awesome one as far as comic book characters.
00:09:10.509 --> 00:09:13.397
He kind of got the best send-off that he absolutely could have gotten.
00:09:13.397 --> 00:09:18.817
But he really wanted to return back to the role due to his friendship with Ryan Reynolds.
00:09:18.817 --> 00:09:28.796
He even had chats with Kevin Feige as to whether it would be something that is possible or something that he should do, and $1.4 billion says that he made the right choice.
00:09:28.796 --> 00:09:39.993
With a budget of about $200 million estimated, it has definitely made a profit and has lived in the hearts of many a fan for a time to come.
00:09:39.993 --> 00:09:43.345
Now, this movie stars Ryan Reynolds in the role of Deadpool.
00:09:43.345 --> 00:09:55.504
It stars Wolverine and Hugh Jackman, but it also brings back a lot of the Sony characters that we remember from our nostalgic past, including Blade, played by wesley snipes.
00:09:55.504 --> 00:10:07.405
There was electra with jennifer garner, and the uh favorite uh gambit played by channing tatum, a man who had been advocating for the role for so long, and even the return of chris evans as johnny storm.
00:10:07.405 --> 00:10:18.253
It just played on that nostalgia and it brought back those characters that we know and love, and the relationship between deadpool and wolverine was characters that we know and love, and the relationship between Deadpool and Wolverine was something that we can all grow from.
00:10:18.253 --> 00:10:23.235
Most notably, they learned that they couldn't overcome obstacles all on their own.
00:10:23.235 --> 00:10:30.278
Sometimes it's okay to ask for help, and Deadpool actually learned a lot about humility in this movie.
00:10:30.278 --> 00:10:38.197
He kind of went on a big growing journey from Deadpool 1 all the way to this one, and if they stopped the trilogy here, I think I would be quite happy with his arc.
00:10:38.197 --> 00:10:49.025
You know, at the start of Deadpool 1 he didn't really want to be a part of the X-Men, actively avoiding that role, in fact, and Colossus was trying to get him to be a part of a group and a family and think of others.
00:10:49.025 --> 00:10:55.506
And then by the end of this movie he definitely was working toward sacrificing for others.
00:10:55.506 --> 00:11:04.876
The whole movie, in fact, is him trying to stop his own timeline and his own little family from being eradicated from existence, and he used none other than wolverine to help him.
00:11:04.876 --> 00:11:18.072
So if you're one of the people that hasn't seen deadpool and wolverine, make sure you go and check it out at is, as it is, our 2024 and very first recipient of the Best Movie Award in the Fandom Favorites.
00:11:20.285 --> 00:11:22.274
Thank you so much for tuning into this episode, guys.
00:11:22.345 --> 00:11:31.235
