00:00:10.093 --> 00:00:10.634
hey everybody.

00:00:10.634 --> 00:00:17.731
It's aaron here from the fandom portals podcast, and this is the podcast where we explore fandoms and help you learn and grow.

00:00:17.731 --> 00:00:19.617
Today I'm here for a short episode.

00:00:19.617 --> 00:00:21.361
I am joined with brasha.

00:00:21.361 --> 00:00:22.123
How you going today, brash?

00:00:22.123 --> 00:00:23.064
Not too.

00:00:23.064 --> 00:00:25.448
Oh man, I'm going pretty well.

00:00:25.487 --> 00:00:30.076
Today's special episode is where we're talking about the year that was 2024.

00:00:30.076 --> 00:00:33.966
Obviously, this is being recorded prior to New Year's.

00:00:33.966 --> 00:00:51.167
It's been a great year of film and TV, so many standouts, and this is actually going to be the first annual awards nomination podcast show where we're going to be giving away awards for the fandom favorites is what it's going to be called of 2024.

00:00:51.167 --> 00:00:54.081
So far, we have three categories for these.

00:00:54.081 --> 00:01:06.316
We're hoping to grow these as the years go on, and the three categories that we have so far is the top film of 2024, the top hero of 2024 and the top villain of 2024.

00:01:06.697 --> 00:01:17.632
Now, if you're a person who has an idea for a category for us that we can give our fandom favorite awards to on a yearly basis, then please feel free to contact us on threads or Instagram or even by email.

00:01:17.632 --> 00:01:23.112
That is all in the show notes below, and we love social interaction, so come on over and share your ideas.

00:01:23.112 --> 00:01:28.671
So all of the nominations that go ahead today will be on our social medias for you to vote on.

00:01:28.671 --> 00:01:37.993
So if you want to have your say, definitely connect with us on there and vote, and the results of which will be posted a little bit later on in the year.

00:01:37.993 --> 00:01:45.951
So, brash, to introduce our first segment, which is going to be the top films of 2024.

00:01:45.951 --> 00:01:48.983
What are your nominations for the top films of 2024?

00:01:49.483 --> 00:01:55.269
So, my top films, deadpool and Wolverine, are four guys.

00:01:55.751 --> 00:02:03.269
Yep, and if Okay, three very different movies that you've got there.

00:02:03.269 --> 00:02:06.549
Obviously, the first one one, deadpool and Wolverine.

00:02:06.549 --> 00:02:08.868
Uh, it made over a billion dollars.

00:02:08.868 --> 00:02:11.580
It's a, it's a no-brainer, obviously for 2024.

00:02:11.580 --> 00:02:20.960
A beautiful cast with Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, directed by Sean Levy, and even the press junket for that had me hooked, like I was watching everything that came out for it.

00:02:22.062 --> 00:02:23.467
I tried to avoid it as much as possible.

00:02:23.467 --> 00:02:24.408
Hard to do?

00:02:24.669 --> 00:02:25.632
Yeah, 100%.

00:02:25.632 --> 00:02:40.046
It was all over social media, the cameos, and I also loved that that movie was a love letter to the old box movies that we kind of grew up with and I love at the end, how they threw in all the old X-Men and some Daredevil.

00:02:40.360 --> 00:02:41.445
Behind the scenes stuff.

00:02:41.445 --> 00:02:44.164
I love that they included Daredevil because you know, elektra was in the movie.

00:02:44.164 --> 00:02:51.783
But I watched Daredevil before it was actually, before I was on the internet and everybody was like this is a really crappy movie.

00:02:51.783 --> 00:02:55.461
And I watched it and I was like I'm entertained, I'm a young teenage kid, I mean it's good.

00:02:56.442 --> 00:03:00.123
It was good Especially for the time yeah.

00:03:00.183 --> 00:03:07.087
I think it definitely pulled on the heartstrings and you know the tongue-in-cheek time of your life by Green Day Great.

00:03:07.087 --> 00:03:11.911
So, yeah, I think Deadpool and Wolverine will definitely be going on the list.

00:03:11.911 --> 00:03:12.692
The four guys.

00:03:12.692 --> 00:03:22.837
I did see Ryan Gosling different Ryan in this one, both Canadian, though starring alongside Emily Blunt.

00:03:22.837 --> 00:03:29.133
Thank you, yeah, just a great sort of the thing that stood out for that movie for me was the stunts.

00:03:29.133 --> 00:03:43.435
Oh yeah, yeah, this guy that's a director now was a stunt man for so long and he knows how much crap they go through as a job and now that he's a director, he's just paying homage to them left, right and center.

00:03:43.656 --> 00:03:50.116
Oh, I understand, and yeah, and again, this is also just a love letter to the unsung heroes of movies.

00:03:50.116 --> 00:03:50.719
100%.

00:03:50.980 --> 00:03:56.008
All the stuntmen, yeah, yeah, and the director of this movie as well Fall Guys.

00:03:56.008 --> 00:03:58.467
He also did Bullet Train.

00:03:58.467 --> 00:03:59.169
Have you seen Bullet Train?

00:03:59.169 --> 00:04:00.600
I love Bullet Train.

00:04:00.600 --> 00:04:03.483
It was a sleeper for me, hey, really, yeah.

00:04:03.483 --> 00:04:12.389
Yeah, david Leitch is the director's name and I passed on it because you know it didn't really look like a movie that I'd be into, but I watched it recently.

00:04:12.389 --> 00:04:14.771
Very good film, oh, awesome.

00:04:14.771 --> 00:04:19.074
And he's definitely got his style back here in the Fall Guy as well.

00:04:19.074 --> 00:04:21.476
And then, what was your third pick for the movie of the year?

00:04:21.476 --> 00:04:23.648
What was that one If I third pick for the movie of the year?

00:04:23.648 --> 00:04:24.372
What was that one If I haven't?

00:04:24.392 --> 00:04:24.574
seen, if.

00:04:24.574 --> 00:04:25.319
Talk to me about If, if, yeah.

00:04:25.319 --> 00:04:31.386
So another Ryan Reynolds movie, but with my boy, john Krasinski in it, one of my favourite actors.

00:04:31.386 --> 00:04:34.230
Most people know him from the Office as Jim.

00:04:34.230 --> 00:04:51.504
Yeah, it's a basically a story about not losing that like imaginative side of yourself as a child, like as you grow up, there's always room to keep that imagination.

00:04:51.504 --> 00:04:52.824
And, yeah, just everyone in that.

00:04:52.824 --> 00:04:54.728
And it's star-studded.

00:04:54.728 --> 00:05:02.805
There's so many voices in the movie, like all voicing the imaginal the same one.

00:05:02.805 --> 00:05:09.113
Yeah, there's Awkwafina, she does voices.

00:05:09.113 --> 00:05:12.774
I think even Jason's in it as well.

00:05:12.774 --> 00:05:17.084
Yeah, there's just a plethora of voices in it.

00:05:17.084 --> 00:05:26.752
But Ryan Reynolds, he plays his quirky self, but he plays more of a cynical side of himself.

00:05:26.752 --> 00:05:32.846
Yeah, it's almost sad in a way, but yeah, like he's lost that spirit, he lost that childhood.

00:05:33.562 --> 00:05:34.384
He's lost himself.

00:05:34.404 --> 00:05:38.370
Yeah, and there's like a sort of bit of like you know, it's like a huge twist.

00:05:38.370 --> 00:05:41.348
Yeah, like you can sort of see it, but there's a bit of a twist in it at the end.

00:05:42.069 --> 00:05:43.271
You know what it reminded me of.

00:05:43.271 --> 00:05:44.312
You know the.

00:05:44.312 --> 00:05:52.449
You know like back in the nineties or the early two thousands, when there would be movies that come out like like Richie Rich or the original Jumanji, and they were just like.

00:05:52.449 --> 00:05:59.624
They were kids movies, but they were live action kids movies for you to watch that wasn't animated, and there isn't too many of that coming out anymore, and I love that.

00:05:59.624 --> 00:05:59.785
This is.

00:05:59.785 --> 00:06:00.706
John presents his originals.

00:06:00.706 --> 00:06:07.887
Oh yeah, he wrote it as well, didn't he?

00:06:08.459 --> 00:06:09.524
Yep Also.

00:06:09.524 --> 00:06:12.903
Yeah, it was like something he had on the back burner that he wanted to make.

00:06:13.305 --> 00:06:14.283
Very cool, alright.

00:06:14.283 --> 00:06:25.670
So my picks for top movies and all of these will obviously be coming out on our social media for you guys to vote on so you can have a say on what our top movie of 2024 will be for the Fandom Favorites Awards.

00:06:25.670 --> 00:06:30.370
So for me, my favorite movie of the year was the Wild Robot.

00:06:30.370 --> 00:06:30.951
Have you seen that?

00:06:30.951 --> 00:06:33.367
No, but everyone tells me to watch it.

00:06:33.367 --> 00:06:34.129
Yeah, it is.

00:06:35.600 --> 00:06:38.209
The animation style in that is just breathtakingly beautiful.

00:06:38.209 --> 00:06:48.649
For one, it's innovative, from what I've seen of it as well, because the natural world is all painted in these pastels and these beautiful sort of colors and it's very bright.

00:06:48.649 --> 00:07:03.904
But then there's also the technological aspect of it that is all very sharp and traditional-like animation that you see now, where it's very computer generated, and that juxtaposition together just makes it so artful and I love that about it just technically, but also the message that is through it.

00:07:03.904 --> 00:07:14.857
It's essentially a story of motherhood, which I can't speak to because I'm a man and a father, but from watching it with my partner, kalia, it really just touches on some of those notes that mothers go through.

00:07:14.857 --> 00:07:22.687
It's almost like the unsung commentary that not many people hear about how tough it is, and it does bring a tear to your eye.

00:07:22.687 --> 00:07:28.202
It is very emotional and when a movie evokes that kind of emotional response, animated or not, I have to rate it highly.

00:07:28.627 --> 00:07:29.394
Five stars for me.

00:07:29.394 --> 00:07:31.627
The Wild Robot is my first nom.

00:07:31.627 --> 00:07:34.562
My second is probably going to be Gladiator 2.

00:07:34.562 --> 00:07:35.767
You've seen Gladiator 2?

00:07:35.767 --> 00:07:36.482
No, I haven't.

00:07:36.482 --> 00:07:37.206
Yeah, two for two.

00:07:37.206 --> 00:07:44.324
Gladiator 2 was critically up and down, so I don't know if you sort of looked into or seen.

00:07:44.444 --> 00:07:45.586
I've still looked into it.

00:07:45.586 --> 00:07:49.389
I think that's sort of what has stopped me from watching it, like going and watching it.

00:07:49.389 --> 00:07:56.315
When it first came out I was like oh, that might not be a bad watch, but then I was like I know Pascal's in it, which is amazing.

00:08:00.641 --> 00:08:14.040
I'm like I don't think it's enough for me to actually go and watch it until it comes out in something free is awesome to be a part of, and the fact that he builds all his own sets and hires all the extras.

00:08:14.040 --> 00:08:17.716
It's a hearkening back to the way that movies were made in the early 2000s, which I love.

00:08:17.716 --> 00:08:32.238
It would have been cheaper for him to CGI it, but I love the fact that he actually builds the set and Denzel Washington in interviews actually has said you know, ridley built the playground I was just in it and makes it real easy for us to do my for our job in there.

00:08:32.238 --> 00:08:42.034
I think that the Gladiator 2, just visually stunning the story of Macrinus, denzel Washington's character, carried me through the movie.

00:08:42.034 --> 00:08:43.219
For that one it's an epic.

00:08:43.219 --> 00:08:45.037
The soundtrack is awesome.

00:08:45.037 --> 00:08:53.738
I love movie soundtracks as it is, but that was one that you just sort of turn up in your car, notch by notch, and just feel the goosebumps rise on your arms.

00:08:53.738 --> 00:08:55.160
Absolutely loved it.

00:08:55.160 --> 00:08:56.543
So that's my second nomination.

00:08:57.091 --> 00:08:58.615
My third nomination is Furiosa.

00:08:58.615 --> 00:08:59.719
Oh right, see that one.

00:08:59.719 --> 00:09:01.251
No, I can't.

00:09:01.251 --> 00:09:02.135
That's not what I was like.

00:09:02.135 --> 00:09:12.453
Well, yeah, they're definitely using characters that they know about, for sure from Mad Max Fury Road, but obviously Furiosa is the telling of the character of Furiosa.

00:09:12.913 --> 00:09:18.120
I just think as an Australian, it being an Australian film, it is a stalwart in the industry.

00:09:18.120 --> 00:09:19.981
It really shows what Australians can do.

00:09:19.981 --> 00:09:32.678
The characters and the storytelling across a generation of time, so across Furiosa's life, is just really well told, because I found that sometimes in storytelling if you have a lot of time jumps it can be disjointed.

00:09:32.678 --> 00:09:42.804
But it was really great to see especially the character of Dementus actually gradually increase in villainousness as the movie went on.

00:09:43.692 --> 00:09:48.822
So that's my three picks for the top films of 2024 and your top three picks as well.

00:09:48.822 --> 00:09:51.519
Those will go out on social media for you guys to vote on.

00:09:51.519 --> 00:09:55.576
We're going to go into our next category now, which is the Hero of the Year.

00:09:55.576 --> 00:10:21.057
Okay, so Hero of the Year is a category for our fandom favorite 2024 awards, where we pay homage to the people that we like to get behind in movies, these moral stalwarts, these people who drive this story to its conclusion, the good guys in the movie, if you will.

00:10:21.057 --> 00:10:23.918
These are the heroes of the stories.

00:10:23.918 --> 00:10:28.937
Brash, who have you got for the heroes as your nomination, or a hero for your nomination?

00:10:29.929 --> 00:10:30.714
Mine's actually.

00:10:30.793 --> 00:10:33.296
Ryan Gosling, the man himself.

00:10:33.809 --> 00:10:47.011
There you go, yes, yes guys feel this year for him like he's always a big actor, but I reckon this year specifically, he has just been just amazing.

00:10:47.011 --> 00:10:50.139
Yeah, like back like notebook and all that kind of stuff.

00:10:50.139 --> 00:10:53.754
It's like, oh yeah, ryan gosling, he's so dreamy, he's so hot, blah, blah he.

00:10:53.754 --> 00:11:05.691
I reckon this year he's actually like shown his proper, like just acting chops like him, yeah, like he's always been like the heartthrob sort of character, like, even with like the good guys.

00:11:05.691 --> 00:11:09.100
When he did the good guys with uh russell crowe, like that was really amazing too.

00:11:09.100 --> 00:11:18.076
But like him and four guys were like he had to play, had to play a stuntman he was just fun to watch act.

00:11:18.076 --> 00:11:27.298
And the scene where he's crying in the car and then he comes up trying to figure out what he's doing, he's like, nope, nothing's going on, nothing's going on.

00:11:27.298 --> 00:11:27.698
Yeah, all good.

00:11:27.698 --> 00:11:32.519
For me, ryan Gosling, this year has been phenomenal.

00:11:32.620 --> 00:11:33.422
He's been a standout.

00:11:33.422 --> 00:11:56.778
I think that for him, the way he portrays masculinity is hero-worthy because obviously he had the role in Barbie in 2023 as Ken Absolutely awesome and he then played this character here in Fall Guy two completely opposing views of what a man should be, but he plays it with such vulnerability both times and he plays it with such effortless charm.

00:11:56.778 --> 00:12:03.750
You might say that, yeah, he's definitely very sure of himself in a way that isn't really arrogant, like he knows who he is as a person.

00:12:03.750 --> 00:12:08.960
So he's not afraid to branch out and do different roles where it questions like who he is as a character and as a person.

00:12:08.960 --> 00:12:11.192
So I really like him as a role model and an actor.

00:12:11.192 --> 00:12:15.679
Good call, good call Another one of them alone Chang Tatum, Okay.

00:12:16.081 --> 00:12:17.822
Yeah, as Gambit, as Gambit.

00:12:17.822 --> 00:12:19.105
Good on him Actually.

00:12:19.105 --> 00:12:22.585
Yeah, good call, because that is perseverance personified, isn't it?

00:12:22.585 --> 00:12:22.684
Wow?

00:12:23.171 --> 00:12:26.740
And like the fact that he said for years that he wanted to play Gambit.

00:12:26.740 --> 00:12:28.636
He got his chance to play Gambit.

00:12:28.636 --> 00:12:45.837
It was a bit of a I reckon it was a bit of a piss take Yep Tongue in cheek, tongue in cheek, yep but it was good enough that it sort of skipped piss take into being like something that was genuinely Entertaining, entertaining and just downright awesome.

00:12:45.837 --> 00:12:55.360
And like even the look of him like he's a big dude, yeah yeah, whereas I think Remy Lebeau is a little bit more slender, yeah yeah.

00:12:55.360 --> 00:13:16.155
So when he was like wearing his gambit kit, he looked a bit probably too wide or too big, honestly, to be sort of properly pop a gambit, but it sort of made him look a bit like, you know, like those old wrestling yeah, Like you know, like those old, wrestling yeah the wrestling dolls.

00:13:16.236 --> 00:13:19.240
Yeah, weas dolls yeah, he sort of looked like that a little bit, but it was actually.

00:13:19.240 --> 00:13:22.163
Yeah, he was tremendous for that.

00:13:22.163 --> 00:13:22.683
I love that.

00:13:22.703 --> 00:13:23.304
Absolutely tremendous.

00:13:23.424 --> 00:13:23.905
That's awesome.

00:13:23.905 --> 00:13:32.580
And my second one is actually from the same movie, but it is name X-23.

00:13:32.580 --> 00:13:34.783
Daphne Keene Daphne Keene, daphne Keene.

00:13:34.783 --> 00:13:46.511
Yeah, like she brought I think she brought so much emotion, heart, yeah and heart back to that move like that movie.

00:13:46.511 --> 00:13:48.649
That was all comedy.

00:13:48.649 --> 00:13:51.241
Yeah, pretty much like.

00:13:51.341 --> 00:14:16.254
Even like the fact that Deadpool wants to save his what he says, his family wasn't really that hot wrenching yeah but as soon as Daphne King came back in his X-23 and like as soon as she sees Wolverine again for the first time after she lost him in the Wolverine movie and it sort of brings back that emotion like I can, that was very cool and realistically.

00:14:16.254 --> 00:14:29.647
Pretty much all those guys, yeah, like Electroblade, chris Evans as Johnny Storm back again, all them guys as backers like their old characters and getting those shots as kick ass, yeah was just amazing.

00:14:29.647 --> 00:14:33.119
But Daphne King and Channing Tatum from Wolverine very good, that's awesome.

00:14:33.119 --> 00:14:34.081
But Daphne King and Channing.

00:14:34.101 --> 00:14:35.284
Tatum from Wolverine Very good, that's awesome.

00:14:35.284 --> 00:14:42.917
So, heroes for me.

00:14:42.917 --> 00:14:55.620
I went with Deadpool for the nominations just because, in terms of the trilogy, that is, you know, deadpool 1, deadpool 2, and this one, deadpool and Wolverine, you really see him take off the mask as that wisecracking, cocky character to become a character that is really just fighting for love and family and heart.

00:14:55.620 --> 00:15:00.037
And he finds another found family in the, the sony characters, as you, as you just mentioned.

00:15:00.037 --> 00:15:06.042
But I feel like he becomes more of a wade wilson than he does of a deadpool, and that sort of character growth is heroic for me.

00:15:06.042 --> 00:15:19.226
Um, and where he learns that at the very end scene, that very famous one where you see deadpool and wolverine, uh, joining together to combine the reactors and share the burden, that's just such a good allegory for friendship, isn't it?

00:15:19.226 --> 00:15:33.442
Where you're looking at Deadpool who's taking on this burden he can't do it alone and Wolverine, or Logan, hugh Jackman, as the character, just really backs him up in that moment, and it's reminiscent of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman's friendship in real life as well, which is great to see.

00:15:33.442 --> 00:15:36.349
I love it when an onscreen friendship matches an outside one.

00:15:36.349 --> 00:15:39.720
So Deadpool's my first nomination for that one.

00:15:40.520 --> 00:15:44.755
My second nomination for best hero of 2024 goes to Kate.

00:15:44.755 --> 00:15:49.610
Kate, who is played by Daisy Edgar Jones from the Twisters movie.

00:15:49.610 --> 00:16:03.936
The reason I'm picking her is because she single-handedly stops the cyclones or the twisters from devastating a region of Oklahoma and as a woman in STEM, that is just like literally saving lives.

00:16:03.936 --> 00:16:12.460
I think that as a character, that is a really great representation of the field, even though the science is a little bit janky through the movie.

00:16:12.460 --> 00:16:15.868
But I feel like she has this dream that she follows through.

00:16:15.868 --> 00:16:17.091
She sticks to her values.

00:16:17.091 --> 00:16:26.581
She does have some trauma that sort of stops her from pursuing that, but then the movie is about her overcoming that trauma and then facilitating and helping others with her gift.

00:16:26.581 --> 00:16:29.148
So that is definitely a hero pick for me.

00:16:30.914 --> 00:16:33.820
And last of all, I'm going to go with Poe from Kung Fu Panda 4.

00:16:33.820 --> 00:16:40.649
Uh, I think that Poe has been a lot of things over the years, from Kung Fu Panda 1, 2, 3, and now 4.

00:16:40.649 --> 00:16:46.399
Uh, it's a really great.

00:16:46.399 --> 00:16:48.695
I don't know if this is the culmination, whether it's the end of his arc, as as the hero of Kung Fu Panda.

00:16:48.695 --> 00:17:03.201
I don't know if they'll call it Kung Fu Fox after this or whatever Awakfina's character is, but he almost transitions from, you know, clumsy fool to dragon warwick and now to sage of the village, oogway, oogway, pretty much.

00:17:03.201 --> 00:17:09.063
That transition and that position of leadership he kind of takes on in his own way.

00:17:09.063 --> 00:17:19.596
He doesn't become another Oogway, but he becomes a leader in his own right and through his own mannerisms, and he doesn't change the character that he is because who he is is enough to be a leader and a role model himself.

00:17:19.596 --> 00:17:23.424
So for that Poe gets my nomination as well.

00:17:23.484 --> 00:17:25.088
So there for the best heroes.

00:17:25.088 --> 00:17:29.425
And last category, we're going to go on to best villains.

00:17:29.425 --> 00:17:33.098
Hear that guitar.

00:17:33.098 --> 00:17:33.923
For the best villains there.

00:17:33.923 --> 00:17:35.390
Great love it all right.

00:17:35.390 --> 00:17:37.157
So villains obviously carry a story.

00:17:37.157 --> 00:17:53.247
Sometimes they're my favorite characters in the actual story and this award for the fandom favorites of 2024 goes to those villains who are the most devious, who are the uh, the driving force behind the hero's journey, sometimes and often the antithesis of that hero.

00:17:53.247 --> 00:17:54.568
So I'll go first for this one.

00:17:56.056 --> 00:17:59.984
The villain in Gladiator 2 is a man who is called Macrinus.

00:17:59.984 --> 00:18:01.528
He is played by Denzel Washington.

00:18:01.528 --> 00:18:21.968
I will not be surprised if he gets an Oscar for this role for a supporting casting character, because his political mind in this movie is so strategic to the point where you're watching him with interest through the whole film to see when the penny is going to drop and then when it does, boy does he take action.

00:18:21.968 --> 00:18:24.238
Spoiler alert on this one.

00:18:24.238 --> 00:18:36.268
He basically just goes through and enacts his plan within the last 20 to 35 minutes of the movie and it's just such a speed run into his rise that is.

00:18:36.268 --> 00:18:49.353
He's just a character that you love to hate because of how clever and ingenious he is and the wordplay that he goes through in that movie is just so nuanced and I really love that about him.

00:18:49.353 --> 00:18:53.942
As a villain and as a character, I feel like Denzel Washington was the perfect person to play him.

00:18:53.942 --> 00:18:58.015
There are people that make critiques about him, saying he's got an American accent in this movie.

00:18:58.015 --> 00:19:03.144
It really doesn't detract or bother from the performance for me.

00:19:03.144 --> 00:19:10.705
I feel like his rise in that movie is the perfect villain arc and he's what kept me watching that movie.

00:19:10.705 --> 00:19:14.806
Everybody's complaining about Paul Maskell and how he doesn't really compare to Russell Crowe.

00:19:14.946 --> 00:19:16.310
That wasn't gladiator two for me.

00:19:16.711 --> 00:19:24.377
Macrinus and Denzel Washington was gladiator two for me and he gets my nomination for best villain of the year, the second one for me.

00:19:24.759 --> 00:19:34.028
I was going to go with Dementus, but I feel like what Dementus does, macrinus does a little bit better, so I don't want to nominate both of them on similar terms.

00:19:34.028 --> 00:19:50.887
So the next one for me we kind of discussed this as to whether he can be considered a villain that we nominate or not is Vince McMahon from the McMahon documentary, who was a real life CEO or previous CEO of the company of WWF, completely villainous in real life.

00:19:50.887 --> 00:20:02.801
If you've watched that Netflix special, you know the crimes that he has sort of committed or alleged crimes that he's committed in the space To his credit as a businessman.

00:20:02.801 --> 00:20:06.182
Wwf WWE probably would not be what it is today without him.

00:20:06.182 --> 00:20:19.599
So with that in mind, and obviously the way that he got there, with a complete disregard for people or the safety of his actors and workers, it's just he's up there for a villainous nomination for me, but they're my only two.

00:20:19.599 --> 00:20:20.979
What about yourself, brash?

00:20:20.979 --> 00:20:22.001
What are your nominations?

00:20:22.483 --> 00:20:23.125
So I've got two.

00:20:23.125 --> 00:20:26.381
My number one is Josh Harnett.

00:20:26.381 --> 00:20:29.627
In the Trap that's Cooper, haven't seen it Go ahead.

00:20:29.627 --> 00:20:36.875
He just, he just like, oozes, like, just when he like.

00:20:36.875 --> 00:20:45.105
There's scenes where the camera, just where he's trying to because he's trapped in the stadium he has to try and figure out a way out just when the camera is.

00:20:45.105 --> 00:20:51.825
There's points where the camera is just looking at his face and you can see him mentally working out all right how I get out of the situation.

00:20:51.825 --> 00:20:56.471
But he just, he just looks sinister, like he's, but he just looks Sinister, sinister.

00:20:56.471 --> 00:21:00.684
He's got his daughter there next to him who's oblivious to the whole situation, and he's like, oh, happy, yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:21:00.684 --> 00:21:12.594
And then when he sees his finished talking to his daughter, he looks up and then the camera pans to him and his face goes from happy father to this almost not panicked but calculating villain.

00:21:12.594 --> 00:21:16.511
And oh, he just Josh Harnett.

00:21:16.511 --> 00:21:18.115
And that just amazed me in that movie.

00:21:18.154 --> 00:21:20.219
Well, that's going on the list You've sold me.

00:21:21.144 --> 00:21:29.738
Yeah, and he, just I, I didn't think he could pull it off and he blew me away.

00:21:29.738 --> 00:21:31.625
That's good, that's good, uh.

00:21:31.625 --> 00:21:34.634
My second one is Kevin Durand in King of the Planet of the Apes.

00:21:34.634 --> 00:21:39.712
Yep, he, he, oh, he, he, he.

00:21:39.712 --> 00:21:41.570
I don't know, he portrays an ape just so well.

00:21:41.570 --> 00:21:42.234
Yeah, it's just.

00:21:42.234 --> 00:22:01.018
Oh, the amount of skill it took for him to like, bring Proximus alive, like, and you see him in interviews when they, when they because they used to, when they did their interviews for it, they did their sort of interpretations of their characters and stuff like that.

00:22:01.018 --> 00:22:04.615
And just, even in interviews, the way he moved, yeah.

00:22:05.464 --> 00:22:24.806
It's almost I call it brave when I find out about actors that do motion capture, because some of it's voiceover, some of it's physical performance, but all of it is like coming together to actually be a character that isn't human, like physically acting as a character that isn't human in motion capture.

00:22:24.806 --> 00:22:25.588
That's the whole point of it.

00:22:25.588 --> 00:22:43.599
And they actually released I heard the copy of the film where where it shows the actors in their motion capture, just so people could see what these actors went through and to portray a villain that I haven't seen it, but a villain that seems to be so calculated and conniving in his space.

00:22:47.744 --> 00:22:48.167
But also do.

00:22:48.167 --> 00:22:51.045
That physical performance is just a testament to Kevin Durant as an actor, and all the noises they make is all them.

00:22:51.045 --> 00:22:55.415
The actors themselves did all the ape noises.

00:22:55.924 --> 00:22:58.392
Was this one directed by Andy Serkis as well?

00:22:58.392 --> 00:23:00.227
I'm not sure I know.

00:23:00.227 --> 00:23:05.193
At least he was there as a consultant, because he obviously played Caesar in the previous one.

00:23:05.193 --> 00:23:06.950
Yeah, caesar's, not in this one.

00:23:07.185 --> 00:23:08.761
Wes Moore was the director for this one.

00:23:08.761 --> 00:23:13.554
Okay, he did Mage Runner, he did the Mage Runner's Kingdom Upon the Apes.

00:23:13.954 --> 00:23:20.855
Yep, yep, the king of motion capture in andy circus obviously had an impact on this, this, this movie.

00:23:20.855 --> 00:23:35.185
But yeah, kevin durant's performance in that and we were talking before about him and how he can play that, that asshole uh, we were talking about real steel before, where he beats the crap out of hugh jackman and, um, he, he, just sort of what from what you're telling me.

00:23:35.185 --> 00:23:37.009
Anyway, he brings it to another level with this.

00:23:37.791 --> 00:23:39.676
Oh yeah, 100% yeah, kieran Durant.

00:23:39.676 --> 00:23:42.833
He's what made that movie.

00:23:43.013 --> 00:23:43.454
Very good.

00:23:43.454 --> 00:23:46.315
All right, so fandom portaliers.
